So, it turns out that Jon Hamm actually is Don Draper.
You’ll recall that in a recent interview with Elle UK, the actor called the reality stars of today “stupid,” saying that: “Whether it’s Kim Kardashian or Paris Hilton or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated…Being a f**king idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture because you’re rewarded significantly. Incuriousness has become cool… It’s celebrated. It doesn’t make sense to me.”
Kardashian responded by calling Hamm “careless,” which unfortunately only made her look more stupid. But while many actors in Hamm’s shoes, realizing they had hurt someone’s feelings and possibly damaged their own reputation, would have backpedaled like crazy, issued an apology, said that the remarks were taken out of context, or engaged in any other manner of celebrity quote-revoking, Hamm did the opposite.
On “The Today Show” this morning, flanked by the rest of the “Mad Men” cast, Hamm not only stood by his comments but elaborated on them.
“I don’t think they were careless, I think they were accurate,” he said, after Matt Lauer confronted him about his remarks. “It’s a part of our culture that I certainly don’t identify with and I don’t really understand the appeal of it, other than in a sort of car crash sensibility.”
I’ll say it again: dude IS Don Draper.
