Sarah Palin Blames Hollywood For Unrealistic Beauty Standards

Sarah Palin co-hosted the Today show this morning and discussed (among other things) body image with Matt Lauer, which apparently they approached through the lens of Jessica Simpson‘s pregnancy weight gain.

“Governor,” Lauer began, “I don’t know how much weight you gained during your pregnancies, but how would you have felt had someone criticized you for gaining too much weight?” To which Palin replied:

“I would have wanted to punch ‘em in the neck. Because it’s none of anybody’s business how much I would gain. You know why this is even an issue, Matt, is because that Hollywood image is full of itty bitty people, unrealistically tiny.”

Not only is irrational neck-punching pretty on brand for Palin, she’s also right: it’s nobody’s business how much weight she gains, especially for pregnancy.

Also! Matt Lauer missed a gigantic opportunity to reply, “Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. You don’t even–you’re glib.” Alas.

It’s been two years since you wrote this Ashley. People are still smug and condescending when talking about Sara Palin. With all that has been thrown at her she prevails. You know, Ashley, no one ever kicks a dead dog. Sara Palin is proof perfect.
