My Girl‘s Anna Chlumsky Is All Grown Up

Do you guys remember My Girl? That movie was devastating. Macaulay Culkin gets murdered by bees (and not in a delightful way like Nic Cage in The Wicker Man remake). My Girl was one of the first movies we ever saw where a likeable protagonist dies horribly and maybe its willingness to kill an adorable child star explains its strange cultural staying power. Ultimately, Culkin kind of won, though, because he didn’t have to be in the sequel (which replaced him with the kid from Prehysteria!).

Now that we’re finished free-associating… the eponymous My Girl Anna Chlumsky (Vada Sultenfuss in the movie) is all pretty and adult now, which you’ll know if you watch 30 Rock or have seen one of the funniest movies ever. Here she is promoting her new HBO show, Veep, which also stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus and was created by the untouchable Armando Iannucci. Here’s Chlumsky:

No, this isn’t just an (unpaid) plug for Veep. Mostly, we’re just impressed with how thoroughly Chlumsky avoided the child star curse.

And speaking of curses, here’s hoping Veep avoids the Seinfeld one.
