I Wish Kate Middleton Would Wear The Same Dress Every Day For A Month

Kate MiddletonGuys, you’re never going to guess what that wacky Princess did.

Kate Middleton repeated a dress in public. That’s right, she wore the same dress twice.

Scratch that, she wore the same dress in a different color. I guess we don’t have to hyperventilate, because she didn’t let the same fabric touch her skin twice or anything crazy like that.

But seriously, where’s her creativity? How hard can it be to come up with a new, completely polished, absurdly conservative and utterly appropriate garment to wear every day for the rest of your life?

We can’t fault fashion-types everywhere for pointing out this serious issue when we’ve conditioned them to believe that people should only ever wear a garment once, no matter how many thousands of dollars the things cost. We continue to accept this rule that famous people need an ever-evolving wardrobe every time they leave the house for a cup of coffee.

This is why I sincerely wish that Kate Middleton would wear the same dress every day for a month.

First of all, some fashion editors’ heads would explode. They would be like robots who got wet, “Can… Not… Function… Buzz… Click… Karl….”

But most importantly, if Princess Catherine took a stand, maybe we would finally stop reporting on the fact that someone wore a dress twice. Especially when THEY WERE DIFFERENT PIECES OF CLOTHING AND DIFFERENT COLORS. Sorry.

Look, that Amanda Wakeley dress looks awesome on Kate. It looked great in cream and it looks great in charcoal, especially with that Alexander McQueen belt thrown in. But it should not be a big deal that she wears something twice.

I once wore a shirt two days in a row, with different pants and an added sweater the second day. Any one piece of clothing in my closet has been worn at least three dozen times.

I understand the idea of dressing up for a special event and therefore wearing something new, but when every day of your life is a special event, we might need to cut you some slack. If you’re at some formal function 90% of your waking hours, I think we should understand when you wear a pair of boots more than once.

So Kate, please consider it. Find a really awesome dress and wear the hell out of it. Then maybe we’ll get all our “repeat indignation” out of our system and we can all get back to trashing the Kardashians and talking about your sister’s butt.

Catherine has worn the same outfit twice, on many occasions. The dress she wore in her official engagement photos were later worn during her Canada tour, and she wore a dress from the Canada tour to Zara Philips’s wedding rehearsal dinner. The dress she wore a couple days before her wedding was later worn to a reception during an official engagement (the official outings of the royal family). If you do a google search of “Kate Middleton Outfit Repeats” you’ll be able to see quite a few examples of items she’s re-worn for private and public outings. When she’s seen out and about in her personal life she is constantly repeating outfits – she wears the same two pairs of jeans all.the.time.

Unfortunately, for engagements, Catherine doesn’t exactly have a whole slew out outfits to choose from. She’s only been at this for a year, and there are strict protocol rules to follow. As Catherine begins to expand her official engagement wardrobe, I’m sure we will begin to see repeats on a more frequent basis.

Meanwhile – Prince William wears the same damn suit every day, and has three ties in rotation.

I hate to be that girl, but I had to point out…
      “wear” not “where”

No worries, on a Friday afternoon, I need someone watching my back. At least now I can fix it!

What Courtney said – she does re-wear clothes all the time! In different outfit combinations (yeah, the white dress was the same, but now she has a MAPLE LEAF HAT), sure, but the same pieces. Some people have suggested that it’s at least partly fueled by an image-related desire to appear budget conscious, even though she doesn’t have a real “budget.”

But yeah, I’m surprised anyone is still harping on this. I thought we heard enough about it last summer.

Hello – question here. Did I not read somewhere recently that William’s budget comes from Charles and as a result, thus does Kate’s clothing allowance. Well, duh. If that is true, perhaps I may have also read that Charles is tightening up everyone’s budget in the family. Even Camilla is showing up in the same outfit again. (OK, ok – so it was that outfit she wore to Tea with the Queen and Kate At F&M.)

Did I not also read that Angela Kelly “recycles” the Queen’s wardrobe as well?

Kate as a practical single did what we all did – made the wardrobe STRETCH. Nothing wrong with that – we do it all the time, and so does Kate. She’s still doing it.

Does make me laugh though. I always believed that if you found something that worked for you you should get it in all the colors it came in – I used to appy that theory to shoes in particular.

I still have (somewhere) a pair of bright blue shoes, that after twenty years still NEVER matched anything I could ever find in the hunt for something to go with them. All the relatives of the blue shoes (yellow, red, black, navy, etc) have passed on to the Land of the Footwear Fairy (I think that’s where they go). Darn, I miss those shoes.

Catherine didn’t get out much in her first year. Give her a chance and we’ll see how she does. I’ll bet she will do just fine. And ask her if she wants my blue shoes – I think they are her size.
