Someone Spent $75K On Lady Gaga’s Teacup

Remember when Lady Gaga‘s chief affectation (one of them, anyway) was that ornate teacup and saucer? Apparently Gaga would coordinate them with events: One such event was a Japanese press conference that occurred a few months after 2011′s devastating tsunami. The cup was emblazoned with the words, “We Pray for Japan.” She told reporters she planned to auction the teacup to raise money for charity so she left a red lipstick mark and autographed the side of the cup.

The cup made its way into a weeklong auction on Yahoo Japan and, along with the accompanying saucer, sold for $75,137.50. The money will benefit ”young Japanese artists who want to study in the US.”

$75,137.50.

Shouldn’t the money be going to a more worthy cause? People who lost everything in the tsunami, maybe?
