Gurl‘s ‘Sexy Times’: Slut-Shaming

It seems girl on girl hate will never go away. In this week’s episode of “Sexy Times” with Sara Hoots, Sara helps out a gal who’s had sex with her boyfriend and is now being called a “slut” by the girls at her school. Not only is this straight up slut-shaming, but according to Sara, a violation of “girl code.” Not cool.

While Sara advises this girl to not give in to the temptation of fighting back with words and therefore stooping to their level, I, sadly, would not be so calm and collected. If you don’t know me and call me a slut, even if I do have a tendency to refer to myself as one, then you’re not only dead to me, but I’ll break your face. Actually no, I won’t. I’d be too scared I’d miss and that someone would hit back, and I’d be face first on the floor in a matter of minutes.

However no matter your age, remember (as Sara so cheerily reminds us) that what you do with your body is your business; and no woman, no matter how promiscuous she might be, should ever be called a slut. Being “sexually active” is human, normal and healthy, so kick the term “slut” to the curb. Honestly, it’s just as weak as when women use “fat” to insult each other. There’s a thing out there and it’s called a thesaurus; if you’re in a row with someone and feel it necessary to throw around some shit talk, open the thesaurus and get some far more creative words. Both “slut” and “fat” are so overused in female culture when it comes to hate, that it’s actually insulting to us as a gender that we haven’t evolved in our disses. Not that I’m condoning disses! But I am advocating getting a thesaurus if you don’t have one. Now.
