Shame On Me: Yesterday Was Marilyn Monroe’s Birthday And I Forgot

It’s practically sinful that yesterday came and went, and it never once registered that is was Marilyn Monroe’s birthday. It wasn’t until I went out last night in Chelsea with my gay male friends, who all took a shot in her honor, that I remembered. I’m a horrible fan. I might as well just turn in my fan badge and quit quoting her on a regular basis. Bad, Chatel.

However, I like to think that I’m just fashionably late to the party. Fashionably late is always an acceptable way to go about life, in my humble opinion.

Had Ms. Monroe lived she would have been 86 years old yesterday. It kind of makes one question the old saying: it’s better to burn out than fade away. If she had not died just as tragically as she lived, would we even have her on an iconic status or would she have just faded away from the limelight eventually?

Instead of contemplating what never was, let’s take a look at some of the most iconic Marilyn Monroe outfits.

“I’m selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don’t deserve me at my best.” — Marilyn Monroe

I think it’s quite hilarious that you decided to end this article with a quote that was never uttered by Marilyn Monroe.

Oh really? Then who said? And how come it’s been attached to her name over and over again? Your insight would be stellar.

Also, it’s “It’s better to burn out THAN fade away” and it’s from the song Hey Hey, My My by Neil Young, so it’s not that old. Became famous because Kurt Cobain put it in his suicide note.
