Science Says You Can Judge Someone 90% Accurately By Their Shoes

According to our friends at How About We, you can basically tell everything you need to know about someone by their shoes. They report:

Researchers at the University of Kansas found that people were able to correctly judge 90% of a stranger’s personal characteristics — their age, gender, income, political affiliation, emotions and more —  just by looking at the style, cost, color, and condition of their shoes…The study asked 63 students to look at photos of 208 different pairs of shoes that belonged to volunteers, who had filled out personality questionnaires. They predicted personality traits based upon the shoes they saw.

Oh, God. Okay, these are the shoes I wear pretty much every day:

They’re from J Crew (Mona Pump, warm bisque, $218). What do you know about me, now? Clue: I like boring neutrals. Send links to your shoes! Let’s judge one another! We’re going to beat those kids and be 100% accurate!

I observe and work a whole lot with kids at work, if not I am fixing computers at school sooo converse are the way to go

And these are the only pumps that don’t have me walk like a newborn pony so I usually go with these when possible

Slutty pin up-y teacher by the night?

You’re liberal and bold and not averse to summering in Nantucket!

I love an invitation to put my judgey pants on! Right up to the tits.

Nude pumps say to me that you’re observant and think before you act. You like classic things with a modern and/or unique twist.

@Elizabeth – I’d say that you have a warm personality and that you’re social. You have a knack for finding unique and beautiful things that others don’t notice at first.

      How’d I do?

Mine are Rag & Bone Newburys. Taupe suede, variegated olive, black leather and brown nubuck.

er, I guess my post did not go through..

At work I wear converse (I work with kids and fixing computers) and my go to dressy shoe that doesn’t make me look like I’m a newborn pony is the Vince Camuto patent mary jane pump.

My most worn pairs of shoes are a pair of gold metallic Tory Burch flats and a beat-up beyond belief pair of cognac-colored flat leather Pedro Garcia boots. And my Chacos.

I think I can guarantee that if you judged me by my shoes you’d be incorrect.
I have a lot of shoes with each and every pair saying something different.

So… I wear black 14 eye Dr. Martens. Which says… um? Personally I think they say I like comfortable shoes that don’t fall apart after 8 weeks, and also don’t enjoy falling over on icey pavements, but then obviously my opinion is irrelevant. Also, sometimes I like to wear them with yellow laces because I can.

Here’s the shoe that I wear more often than any other. I also have it in bright red. Judge away!

    • Jill

Hmm… I own about 90 pairs of the most spectacular shoes… and every day I wear either flip flops or converse. Kinda sad, but true.

Does anyone else think it’s kind of funny that this is from KANSAS? As in ruby slippers, there’s-no-place-like-home Kansas?

Anyway almost every day I wear this:

      Or this:

Both chosen for colors that will hide mysterious stains and both in spite of the fact that my fiance and every male friend I have who is not in my profession tells me they are the ugliest shoes they have ever seen.

Also, they are the most expensive shoes I own.

Quick y’all, tell me who I am!
