Wedge Sandals With Socks In The Summer: Fashion Disaster Or Fashion Greatness?

Seriously. Thoughts? (Disregard the ankle tattoo I got when I was 18.)

I love the look of low socks with open-toe heels in the fall. As winter creeps up, I’m even more of a fan of knee-high or thigh-high socks with open-toe heels, too. I don’t have to worry about blisters, and no one needs to see that I’m badly in need of a pedicure.

Since it’s cold enough today in Colorado to wear socks, but all I have are wedge sandals, I’m trying this look that you see above in the middle of July. I imagine if I wore this back home in New York City it would be accepted for the fashionable aspect — even if it’s a little bit hipster ridiculous, but I would probably be given the stink eye for thinking it appropriate to wear socks in such weather. The stink eye, of course, being on par with the same one I throw around when I see women in mid-calf high boots when it’s 98 degrees outside.

If J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons says it’s cool anytime of year, is it a go? Or maybe it’s just something that we should leave to old ladies and people who wear socks with their flip-flops because they’ve forgotten to take their medicine. I could, however, forget to take my medicine today, if that will give me permission.

Sorry! This poll is now closed.

      That is fucking awful. Haha.

I personally look like an idiot rockin’ this look, but I have seen some people get away with it. Perhaps they have to be styled right.

I don’t understand why this look is supposed to make me want to buy clothes. The model looks so socially awkward. It’s the posture. And the messy hair, and the socks. Ugh, is this “hipster” now?

I would love to do this, just because I love socks, not because it looks okay, which I’m not sure it does.

Also, J Crew models are looking a little less brain-damaged than in recent years–refreshing!

This makes a person look as if they’re perpetually stuck in 2nd grade.
Socks with sandals defeats the purpose of sandals.
If it’s that fucking cold out, wear boots.
      Ugh, honestly!

The only people I know who perpetually rock the socks-and-sandals look are the ones my father worked with at JPL, and most of them have some variation of high-functioning autism. To me, socks + sandals = socially inept rocket scientist. On the bright side, most of those people really seemed to enjoy Monty Python, so I suppose that’s a plus.

To me, the socks-with-sandals speaks to me of the utilitarianist [lack of] fashion sense we have here in the Northwest. I don’t think I can see it as fashionable… only as something I associate with fleece-wearers who don’t know what the weather will bring… and my grandma. However, you did say you were in Colorado. I say go ahead and wear it with pride, and know that you will likely not be alone :)
