Women Are Painting Their Shoes To Look Like Louboutins

Ladies, please don’t do this. According to Britain’s Telegraph, cash-strapped ladies are painting the soles of their shoes red in order to make them look like Louboutins:

Sales of red gloss colours such as Duracoat’s ‘Flame’ and ‘Show Stopper’ have soared by 40 per cent compared to the same period last year and Homebase claim the surge is due to women copying the Louboutin shoes worn by their style icons which retail for up to £635.

Here’s the thing: no one gives a shit if you’re wearing Loubs. Seriously. People just don’t care. What they DO care about is if you think it’s so important to appear to have more money than you do that you’ll fake a pair of fancy shoes in order to trick people.

In other words, people care if you’re a superficial liar.

I’ve thought about doing this, but not to make it look like my shoes were expensive. I just like pops of color in unusual places. My house is painted very neutral, but my closets are super colorful. I wouldn’t do many in red though, I think about blues, greens, oranges and yellows more.

I’ve considered the same thing, but I only thought about red because it’s definitely my favorite color. Then it occurred to me that it would look like I was pretending to have Louboutins and I decided that it wasn’t a great idea.

Question: Is this better or worse than Martha Stewart making her wardrobe assistant Sharpie her Louboutins black?

      • Eileen

Worse. Martha’s trying not to be ostentatious about her wealth. Plus, she’s creating jobs by paying someone to alter her shoes! I’m guessing these red-painters are the DIY kind.

Pff. That’s stupid. If you don’t want expensive shoes, there are plenty of places you can buy NOT Louboutins. In fact, I would guess that MOST shoes are not Louboutins.

Yes it’s true, you will only be loved if people think you are rich, stylish and sufficiently clued in. Or is that just something we convince ourselves when we will only be loved?

In the meantime I intend to paint my feet red today…

I think I might be the only one in the world who thinks the red soles are UGLY. I guess they work on a plain black pump but I’ve seen red on the bottom of tons of other colors and it’s just…ew.

      Might just be me though.

I could not agree with this article more. If you don’t have Loubs, so what? However, if you pretend to, you just look sad, kinda like all those $30 “chanel” bags.

I completely disagree. What if I like the idea of having a pop of color on my soles. Or a print. That doesn’t mean I want Louboutins. Also Martha is ridiculous, if you don’t want to make a statement wearing them why not just not buy them? I mean she’s kind of making a bigger statement by sharpie marker-ing them.
