Bulgari Casts Another Non-Model, Non-Teenager In The Fall Campaign

To answer yesterday’s question: yes, there is something in the water! Fall, turns out, is a watershed season for fashion campaigns that don’t star extremely thin teenagers: American Apparel has Jacky, Lanvin has an enormous cast of non-model civilians (who are even making peplums work) and now Bulgari adds the timelessly beautiful Isabella Rossellini* to our list. Details, courtesy WWD:

Inspired by the work of British painter Meredith Frampton, known for his neorealist and slightly surrealist portraits and still lifes, Rossellini poses with her legs crossed on a black capitonné sofa, shod in red pumps, clutching a red calf-leather tote with a red enamel closure and a rock crystal twist lock.

The arresting campaign was shot by Annie Leibovitz, who famously photographed Rossellini back in 1986… alongside David Lynch, covered in a black turtleneck.

So far, the Fall campaigns are the strongest we’ve seen in a while.

*Okay, okay: Rossellini is technically a former model. But that doesn’t make 60-year-old women starring in fashion campaigns any less special.

Love this! I love Isabella Rossellini- she’s a truly magnetic actress and I think fashion houses are really smart to use faces that people can identify with and be personally connected to rather than relying on anonymous beauty.
