Snuggles Are Now Being Sold

Not the bear. Actual snuggles. How much do you think a snuggle costs?

$60. An hour.

Up until this moment  I would have said “they are priceless, and purchased only with love.” Jacqueline Samuels is out to prove me wrong. She created The Snuggery - a real thing, whose tagline is “take a break. Have a snuggle” – to cater to the needs of those who are not being snuggled enough. The website explains that:

Research provides us with ample evidence that physical contact with others has a positive effect on our physical and mental health. Yet, we live in a culture that does not sanction touch simply for the sake of touch. We’re afraid of touch. Studies have found that people in the United States touch openly less frequently and with less positive feeling than people in many other countries throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, Central and South America. Consequently, we tend to be more agitated and aggressive, both verbally and physically, than people from places where affectionate touch is open and normal.

That actually kind of makes sense! Though so far Jacqueline claims the service caters mostly to men, despite the fact that women also enjoy cuddling, as every cliche relating to this has proven. And arousal… is a thing that happens! That she’s fine with! She tells the Huffington Post:

“Don’t worry, it happens! Although sexual activity is not permitted, arousal is perfectly normal and should not make anyone feel uncomfortable.”

This seems like it could be off-putting for the person giving snuggles, but hell, it also seems like the kind of public service that stops people from hugging you for an inappropriate length of time. Well done, Jacqueline Samuels.
