Joanna Angel Shows NYMag What It’s Like To Date As A Porn Star

It might come as no surprise that dating while being a porn star isn’t easy, especially if you’re looking to find someone outside of your industry. And over at New York Magazine today, Joanna Angel, founder of BurningAngel.com and self-proclaimed “punk porno princess,” doesn’t just tell, she shows writer Rachel R. White exactly what she’s up against.

Angel took White to a speed-dating event that she participated in, hoping to meet someone after coming out of a six-year relationship. At the event, Angel reportedly opened each date with the following spiel:

“Okay, so I am a porn star. No, really I am. Oh, you are too? Well, you’re lying. Because the industry is small and I’d recognize you! So, actually, I guess I’m here because it has been hard for me to find a guy who is okay with what I do. What I am asking is, would you be okay with dating a porn star?”

Unsurprisingly, most dudes just stare at her and wait for the two minutes to be over. And in our humble opinion, it’s their loss.

My boyfriend used to date her back when she was just a stripper! That is still so difficult for me to wrap my head around.

Anyone — man or woman — who would date someone from any part of the sex trade is a complete fool and deserves whatever happens to them.

Sure, it’s cute to throw around internet posts about that lifestyle, but let’s get real:

You really don’t have a right to judge those men for refusing to date a porn star. Believe it or not, it’s actually okay to feel that when it comes to having a relationship, sex is an intimate act and you shouldn’t have to feel like you’re sharing an intimate act and personal knowledge of your girlfriend with the whole world. Stop acting as if everyone is obligated to feel open-minded about what porn stars do. I respect their right to perform in porn, if they respect my right to judge them for it.
