Chris Brown is again at the middle of a media shitstorm (yet never enough of one, it seems) thanks to a new tattoo on his neck that bears a striking resemblance to a woman with a bruised face. The tattoo is not, however, modeled on battered women, it’s actually a “sugar skull,” a design associated with the Day of the Dead and a popular tattoo motif in its own right. Not only that, it’s a… MAC cosmetics sugar skull?
If you’ve ever dropped by a MAC counter, you’te probably familiar with stylized “blank face” templates they use to demonstrate different makeup looks. Like so:

Apparently, Brown’s was actually based on this one:

Of course, if you were Brown, perhaps you might shy away from tattooing yourself with anything that looks even remotely like a woman with a black eye… Or, perhaps instead, you’d do it because you’re aware of the resemblance and thrive on controversy? Who knows.
Since Brown doesn’t believe in criticism, his response was characteristically vainglorious:
Oh, and his “Don’t Judge Me” video is coming out soon. Because Brown is an artist who exists in a bubble of authentic self-expression and neither knows how nor cares to lather a controversy.
