I didn’t realize that a trend could start over something that really can’t be planned for, like the height of your eyebrows, but apparently that is exactly what’s happening out there in the world. The Huffington Post reports on a recent study that’s been following the shape and placement of eyebrows for 60 years now (good use of everyone’s time) and has found that they’ve been getting progressively lower on the forehead and flatter.
Why? Well, researchers blame new gender roles. Mark Soldin, a spokesman for the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons, told the Independent that “women are looking for a flatter, straighter, more masculine look. I think it has to do with the increasing equality of the sexes.”
I mean….that kind of seems like a stretch. I think I would equate it more to the fact that fuller brows require less maintenance, and let’s be real, they look better. Sure, Marlene Dietrich could pull off the old forehead high and tight, but most of us aren’t Marlene.
