5 Signs You’re Not Doing Amazing

Look, I don’t want to be an asshole here, but Amanda Bynes is claiming to be doing “amazing” right now, which is fine, except for the fact that the claim comes on the heels of the actress getting pulled over by cops repeatedly and acting kind of crazy. She’s not going so far as to say that she’s winning, but I feel like “amazing” might be a bit of a stretch.

To find out, let’s take a look at a few things that are generally indicators that things are not amazing in your life:

I’m a little surprised that this feature made it onto this, from my experience, feminist site. I love reading articles about women’s rights and body image in pop culture, but then features like this kind of negate all of that. An entire slide show devoted to a female celebrity’s “misdeeds?” Really? What does this prove to your readers? All it proves to me is that your focus lies somewhere in the middle of building women up and tearing us down. This is one confused reader who may not be visiting again.

Pointing out the hilarious divide between what a woman says and what a woman does isn’t anti-feminist.
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Feminism doesn’t (and shouldn’t) mean you can never criticize another woman. Especially when she is self-destructing and telling everyone she is “amazing”. That’s when you should be looking at the situation critically most of all, especially as a supporter of other women/people in general.

I’m ok with this piece. I’ve had it up to here with pop culture’s knee-jerk support for destructive behavior.
Collectively, we’ve gotten to the point where we celebrate a young woman’s empowerment when she decides to become a sex trade worker.
Every once in a while, SOMEBODY needs to stand up and say this crap is debilitating, unacceptable, and wrecks lives.

I would comment on this post, but I couldn’t read it due to the offensive barrage of advertising.
