Oh, that headline.
Chris Brown is back, partly because he refuses to go away and partly because misogyny. Anyway, he and Rihanna were recently seen partying in New York City and maybe hooked up in a bathroom. …Which was weird, because Brown’s in a longterm relationship with a model (?) named Karrueche Tran, who fired off a series of cryptic tweets when news of the bathroom hookup broke. Turns out, that wasn’t so weird, because Brown and Tran called it quits, which we know through a series of still more cryptic tweets.
Rather than break some windows and bellow about injustice done to him, Brown decided to address the matter full on with this new confessional video which has to be seen to be believed. It features Brown riding around New York in the back of a cab, confessing to someone off-screen that he’s 1) a little drunk, 2) stressed, 3) going to get real because no one sees the real Chris Brown (probably because of their black eyes, Chris) and 4) he’s in love with two people. As in:
“When you share history with somebody, then you tend to fall in love with somebody else, it’s kinda difficult. Is there such thing as loving two people? I don’t know. I don’t know if that’s possible, but for me, I feel like that. I don’t want to hurt either-or. I’m not trying to be a player.”
This is all spliced with footage of champagne corks popping, darkly glamorous club interiors and partying with Rihanna, cut further still with a scene of him sitting alone smoking and brooding like the lovesick antihero from a movie that plays in his head.
He then asserts that he’s not a player because his mother “raised [him] differently” and says his problem, ultimately, is that he just “care[s] too much.” Read it again. Read that sentence again.
What’s so amazing about all this is that it’s real and actually happening in this video:
