I mean, you would have watched Paul Ryan and Joe Biden during the Vice Presidential Debate, but Easy A was on. I know how it is! Look. Here are 5 things you can say that will make you sound reasonable and in the know without ever actually having watched it.
But first, watch this video from Now This News, which will give you all the main points in under 3 minutes. Or you can watch this almost 7 minute recap if you have a lot of time on your hands:
Done? Good. Now 5 points you might want to bring up!
1) President Obama is a good friend of moderator Martha Raddatz’s (of ABC News) ex-husband, who he worked with on the Harvard Law Review. In fact, the president attended their wedding, which led to doubts about whether or not Martha would be too biased. However, she’s generally seen as having been extremely cool and collected and having done a superior job to Jim Lehrer, who moderated the Presidential Debate. While Lehrer asked the candidates broad questions about why they were different, Raddatz asked pointed questions about issues. Vanity Fair tweeted: “Yo, Jim Lehrer, This Is What Killing It Looks Like: the Martha Raddatz Story.”
2) Joe Biden had one of the best zingers of the evening, namely, “Oh, now you’re Jack Kennedy”(in reference to Ryan’s plan to cut taxes which he claimed was similar to Kennedy’s). However, it is a line that has been used before – in 1988 Democrat Lloyd Bentsen mocked the Republican Dan Quayle in a similar manner saying “Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy, I knew Jack Kennedy, Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you’re no Jack Kennedy.” MAYBE ONLY KENNEDY IS KENNEDY.
