Watching Horror Movies Will Burn As Many Calories As A Half Hour Walk

the shining calories

Fuck running, watch The Shining.

Did you watch a horror movie yesterday? Hahahaha, not if you live in New York you didn’t. Unless you live in places with power, in which case, I hate you. But! If you do watch horror movies, ever again, which does seem like a possibility, you should watch The Shining, because it will make you lose weight. According to The Daily Mail:

Scientists at the University of Westminster tested ten people as they watched a selection of classic horror films. They monitored the viewers’ heart rate, oxygen intake and carbon dioxide output to work out how much energy they were using. The scientists found that on average the participants used up a third more calories watching the scary films than if they had been sitting in front of a blank screen. And on average viewers burned 113 calories over 90-minutes of film watching – the same amount as a 30-minute walk – which would off set the calories in a small chocolate bar. However, the films that made viewers jump in terror were the best calorie-burners because they cause the heart rate to soar.

The Shining burns the most at 184 calories. The second most was Jaws (161) and then The Exorcist (158). Watch them all and it will be like you went to the gym!
