Katy Perry Feels Fat Without Spanx

Yesterday, we gave Katy Perry a Fashion Disaster for her navy Naeem Khan cape dress and rhapsodized about about the end of the cape trend. This morning, we saw a girl on the subway wearing an ugly Christmas sweater cape, effectively taking this trend to the next level and putting us in our place.

Regardless of how you feel about capes, intricate beading, severe center parts, gobs of false eyelashes (or whether or not this is an improvement over dressing like “a candy that’s been wrapped too tightly“), Katy Perry feels fat. While attending the UNICEF Snowflake Ball, she said:

“I feel like my [fat] is sticking out so bad right now… I almost always wear [Spanx], but not tonight, and I feel it pushing out, making me look fat.”

We feel so ambivalent about this. On the one hand, what a breath of fresh air! Katy Perry feels imperfect, despite her personal trainer, personal chef, omnipresent hair and makeup team… Katy Perry isn’t immune to Hollywood’s extreme body pressures! Stars really are just like us!

On the other hand, come the fuck on, Katy Perry. Be more responsible. You are not remotely fat and the last thing we need is another teenager seeing a conventionally attractive celebrity complaining about his/her looks.

This is way too many feelings for 9:00, though.

Or you can stop insulting Katy Perry.

Katy admitted that she weighs 130 pounds. That’s how much I weigh and I’m also the same height as her….so should I feel fat too? Of course, I’m only trying to make a point, but come on! She is one of the few celebrities who is at a healthy weight for her height – on the lowish side, but healthy nonetheless – and she feels that she is fat! These days, it seems being fat is basically having even the slightest amount of fat on our bodies. We are suppose to have fat in order to be healthy, but people are lead to believe that fat – of any amount – automatically equals UNHEALTHY and disgusting.
