Lena Dunham Pulls A Twiggy For Entertainment Weekly, Kills It

Are you sick of Lena Dunham yet? No? Good. Me neither. I’m not sure I can speak for everyone else at TheGloss, but I still think she’s the bee’s knees (that maddening book proposal aside.)

For the most recent issue of their 2012 Entertainers of the Year, Entertainment Weekly took one of those said entertainers — Dunham — and styled her in 1960′s mod attire and make-up. And why not? She is currently rocking a very similar pixie cut that put model Twiggy on the map, and similar to Twiggy, Dunham is fast becoming the “It” girl of the moment despite not being the most conventional looking or acting gal out there.

Although she did become an international model, Twiggy was regarded as too short and too thin to fall into the category of how models of the time were “supposed” to look. Her big doe eyes combined with her androgynous looks were something the fashion world had yet to see, and just as young women now are looking to Dunham as a role model, the same can be said for Twiggy almost 50 years ago.

Twiggy by Barry Lategan.

So what do we think? Is this obvious homage and sneaky comparison perhaps a premonition of what’s to come? Will we someday think of Lena Dunham as an icon? Or is she just a flash in the pan we’ll forget after the series Girls ends and they won’t let it die by making shitty movies as follow-ups… like another HBO series we might know?

Lena is using her brain to get famous and make money, while Twiggy mainly used her looks. Twiggy was very pretty but I value what Lena does a whole lot more, flaws and all.

Totally sick of her. Sorry. Her show sucks, and Twiggy wins hands down. I realllllyyyy don’t think she’s an It girl. I admire the fact that she’s not conforming to usual Hollywood standards, and I love that she’s using her brain to get ahead rather than her cup size, but I just don’t like her. I really hate her show, and she hasn’t done anything else to win me over yet. Get on it, Lena. I really want to like you.

The fact that she’s kind of killing it here makes me appreciate how she styles herself for Girls even more.

Yah… I would like to like Lena too, but she is just not likable. She has no looks, no style and for all of the “brains” she supposedly has, the entire writing of the the first season of Girls, couldn’t hold a candle to the cleverness of one episode in the first season of Sex And The City. Lena’s character is grossly ignorant and from the reactions I have seen from Lena to many facets of criticism, she actually chooses ignorance… “oh, I have a rule about reading a mixed review”. You don’t get any better in this life by burying your head in the sand. But her privilege obviously works for her. The flash in the pan moment that she has been afforded seems to be working for her now, but I speculate in 10 years if we will even remember this ignorant cow?
