Look, Kate Middleton is a really pretty woman, so why does this official portrait of her seem to capture her at her most tired?
This portrait. This official one:
The portrait, painted by Paul Emsley has already been praised by the royals, and the Prince of Wales website remarks that:
“The Duchess took part in an initial meeting to talk through the process of the painting. This was followed by two sittings, in May and June 2012, at the artist’s studio in the West Country, England, and Kensington Palace. Emsley later made use of a series of photographs produced during the sittings. His subjects are frequently located against a dark background and emphasise ‘the singularity and silence of the form’; while utilising a meticulous technique of thin layers of oil paint and glazes.”
Well, that sounds like a good deal of work! However, I’m more apt to side with Tyler Coates at Blackbook who says:
Good lord, it looks like Kate Middleton will climb out of that painting Ghostbusters II style and kill us all with pink goo.
Yes, that sounds about right. But, no, really, she just looks tired. Fortunately, since Kate Middleton is the Duchess of Cambridge, there will probably be approximately 1,000 other portraits of her and about a million photos, so, really, no need to worry about this one too much.
