I think a lot of the uncanny feeling also comes from Dakota's blank, doll-like stare. She's not even a child, but a child's toy.
Cropped Mickey Mouse shirt: sexy and womanly, or uncomfortably infantilizing?
It would not normally be weird to see a willowy 19-year-old in an outfit that barely covers her ass in the pages of a magazine. But given Dakota's baggage, it does in this case.
I think a lot of the uncanny feeling also comes from Dakota's blank, doll-like stare. She's not even a child, but a child's toy.
Or maybe she is just genuinely unaware of any of this. This quote about why she doesn't date does make her seem a little bit young for her age:
"I have a weird vision of relationships because my parents have known each other since second grade, and they got married right out of college. I’ve always thought that’s what it’s supposed to be like, and if it’s not, then I don’t want to waste my time on it. Even when I was 14, I was like, 'I’m not gonna marry this person. What’s the point of doing it?' It’s not me being naive. I just know what it’s supposed to be like. And I think until I feel that, I cannot be bothered."
This is all well and good, but I'm willing to bet the majority of married people did not know they were going to marry each other the second they met. They probably went on at least a few dates first.
I also get uncomfortable when photos encourage us to view girls who have yet to achieve sexual agency of their own as sexual objects. But maybe that's just me.
NEVER FORGET
