We are longtime, loyal fans of Cate Blanchett–we think she’s worn some of the greatest red carpet dresses of all time, we have devoted whole slideshows to her excellence.
That said, you don’t get to be as good as Cate Blanchett is at dressing without taking a few risks… and suffering through the corresponding missteps. Although Blanchett is widely regarded as one of the best dressed women in Hollywood, who can forget her patchwork quilt disaster? Or, more recently, she donned lopsided Givenchy and a mess of a look by Juan Carlos Obando.
This week, she becomes a cartoon crab. She attended last night’s AACTA Awards like so:
That would be Spring 2009 Armani Prive. We can’t decide if Blanchett looks like Madonna in Dick Tracy or space Jessica Rabbit or just a regular old crustacean. Either way, that flounce at the hem is really weird.
We may be in the minority on this one, though, as others seemed to like her styling decisions–the minimal accessories, sleek bun and warm, peachy makeup seem like good choices, we admit.
But, doesn’t something about this strike you as a little too odd?
Maybe we just hate power shoulders?
