Disturbing Things About Taylor Swift’s Performance At The Grammys

Let’s just take a moment and watch Taylor Swift‘s 2013 Grammys performance, and sort of take a second to just take it all in, and then recoil, a little bit.

Why did we recoil? Let’s count that way.

1) It seems like this is no normal circus she is the MC of. This is apparently the circus  every scary circus figure from horror movies escaped from. The zombie circus.

2) Why are even the scary clowns fleeing from Taylor Swift? This is like a child’s Halloween nightmare.

3) The rabbit hovering around her seems pretty hallucinatory, like something from Donnie Darko or Harvey.

4) Isn’t it weird how we’re going to have to be nice to Taylor Swift forever because of that whole “Imma Let You Finish” speech Kanye gave? Her performances at the Grammys are going to get weirder and weirder, and after each, whoever is hosting the Grammys will talk about how great she is. By 2017 she will eat the still beating heart of one of her former lover’s onstage, and everyone in the audience will opera clap.

5) Using a fake stupid voice on your exes is always in bad taste, right? We still feel that way? As people?

6) Isn’t Harry Styles right there in the audience? Like, literally right there in front of her?

She needs to GROW UP! I get it, Justin TImberlake wrote Cry Me a River, John Mayer wrote Shadow Days, and Adele wrote Someone Like You, but they were ONE SONG..and at times they were soulful and meaningful. Her songs are whiny and annoying. Like I said before, at first we got behind her because she was young and it was her first ex or two but now its like..there’s a common denominator here, Taylor. And yes, mocking exes voices on stage at her age is very very sad.

obviously you never listen to the radio. most music is about love.

I agree. I hate her so much. She can’t sing and she squinty eyes have always bothered me. She seems really petty. I feel sorry for ally guys who have dated her, but at least they have wised up and dumped her ass.

Taylor Swift sounds nice enough when recorded, but I’ve noticed she’s often off-key or just … off during live performances. She does write her own songs, although they’re songs fit for 13-year-olds, not 23-year-olds. I wouldn’t be surprised if she quit performing and just became a songwriter for teeny boppers within the next ten years.

oh yes, because john mayer is practically a saint.. (sarcasm.)

I am just impressed by how low her heels are. And yet her legs look soooooo long. In white boots. And white shorts with an actual inseam. I can’t stop staring at her legs. I want them attached to my torso. That might seem a bit crazy.

Right? I have always felt like she should forget singing and just become a model.

No, Harry Styles wasn’t there because why the hell would One Direction be invited to the Grammys.

      HAH!

I think that was supposed to be some bizarre take on Alice in Wonderland

While I personally strongly dislike Taylor’s music as well as her general persona (innocence personified, the nice girl, etc etc), I find myself disappointed in both the Gloss and Jennifer for this article which reeks of girl-on-girl hate. I thought the Gloss was all about creating a feminist-friendly atmosphere. Yeah, so Taylor’s music is immature for her age and that British accent was tacky and gimmicky, and I adore Yeezy and his ridiculous self-adoration, but what he did was rude and tactless – should we really declare an open season on Taylor now that it’s been a while since someone publicly humiliated her and man, she should totally be over that by now, right? Beyond that, most of the hate I see Taylor getting online is from other girls and almost every single comment mentions her serial-dating and the prediction of future ex-bashing. While ex-bashing is not the most mature content to put in your music, it’s not as if she’s the only one to write about her heartbreaks and play the victim in her own music. And this culture that’s growing on the internet where it’s okay to hate on Taylor reeks strongly of slut-shaming. She’s in her early twenties. Let her make some stupid and tacky mistakes. You can think she lacks talent or that her performance at the Grammys looks like a “zombie circus”. That’s fine. But don’t contribute to the rapidly-growing avalanche of irrational Taylor-hate online, because it’s been contributing (purposefully or accidentally) to a slut-shaming culture that the Gloss should be arguing against.
