We’re pretty hard on Julianne Hough around here.
It seems like every time she shows up on a red carpet, she’s been talked into exactly whatever thing is the trendiest at the moment. It’s frustrating because it’s symptomatic of a larger problem with what passes for style in Hollywood: starlets with no sense of self coerced into looking like idiots by people who often care much more about career visibility than… the way someone’s actually dressed.
IE, you can send Julianne Hough down the red carpet in a dress that looks natural and suits her personality (she does have one, right?), or you could send her out in a garish neon column, “a bold lip” and an of-the-moment top knot in the hopes she’ll land in a bunch of red carpet trend roundups the next day.
Or even just inspire negative coverage exactly like this.
That said, doesn’t she look lovely here? Doesn’t she look terrific? Granted, we’re not partial to the flowers but let’s not nitpick–she looks amazing in this pale dove gray with this genuinely interesting neckline, her hair in a soft updo and no statement makeup in sight. It fits so well! And we love pockets on dresses!
Too bad the world is cruel, you guys:
WHY?! WHAT IS THIS FOR?
Cannot accept. Cannot abide the dumbest trend of the late 90s/early ’00s and for no reason. The dress was so lovely on her and then you scroll down and think to yourself, “What in Jennifer Aniston hell was her stylist thinking?”
Dress over pants always looks awkward. Hell, long tunic over pants is a hard sell. Next, throw on some metallic pumps and you’re done, we guess.
