Lily Cole Does ‘Disaffected Housewife Chic’ In Vogue US

lily-cole1

Perhaps inspired by the pretty picture on the cover of the 50th anniversary edition of The Bell Jar, Vogue US took clear inspiration from “the problem that has no name” for a spread in its March 2013 issue. In it, the uber cute Lily Cole poses in various states of suburban ennui and looks fabulous in all the latest retro-inspired spring ’13 fashions, even as she appears to contemplate suicide. As if that wasn’t thought provoking enough, there’s also some peppy copy like the above paragraph comparing an ominous oven fire to “sparkly accompaniments,” and the other paragraph promising a “never-a-dull-moment-affair.” Depression is fun!

She’s not exactly up-and-coming, considering she’s been around for ages, but she really is lovely.

Funny. Seriously, did Vogue really publish these disturbed images? Not yo mama’s Vogue, I suppose.
