I Made You A Valentine’s Day Mix

valentines-day-mix

So it’s Valentine’s Day, and I’m actually pretty stoked about it. Seitan piccata, stripper boobs, and love are all on the menu, but I’ll stop before I gross you out. Because love and music are two great tastes that taste great together, I’ve assembled some of my favorite love songs using the time honored method of “type any song you want to hear into Youtube.” I could have made it downloadable, but that would technically be breaking the law, and I don’t want any trouble today. I LOVE YOU ALL.

Klaus Nomi, “Valentine’s Day”

This song is from Klaus Nomi’s unfinished space-western opera ZABAKDAZ. It is weird. My friend who is really good at Googling strongly recommends it.

Frank Ocean, “Thinkin Bout You”

Soothe the pain of unrequited love with zombies, zombies and more zombies.

Belle and Sebastian, “If You Find Yourself Caught In Love”

One of the simplest and catchiest songs ever put out by these monsters of college rock. And yet, it feels…deep, somehow? (Fast forward to 1:00 if you hate long intros.)

Hot Chip, “One Life Stand”

This song reminds me of when you are looking for your lover in a crowded Berlin club, only it’s difficult because you’ve done too much ecstasy and shirtless guys in bondage straps keep knocking you over, but when you find him, it’s so worth it.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, “Everything With You”

Every song by this band makes me feel like I’ve just kissed a boy for the first time.

TV On The Radio, “Will Do”

So “Ambulance” is actually my favorite love song by TV On The Radio and I am definitely going to dance to it at my wedding, but I have put it on too many mixes already and I don’t want it to get tired. (Also, Sam suggested it.) Fuck it, here’s “Ambulance,” too (try not to cry):

The Smiths, “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out”

What mix of love songs would be complete without The Smiths?

Crystal Castles feat. Robert Smith of The Cure, “Not In Love”

I could have just posted an old Cure song, but Rob Smith is still making great music, okay?

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, “Modern Romance”

I used to listen to this one while sighing around my room.

Bright Eyes, “First Day Of My Life”

If I were a character in a movie, this song would start playing every time I laid eyes on a cute boy. It would happen a lot, and it would be played for laughs.
