How To Make Your Melancholy, Somewhat Cranky, Winter Blues Work For You

violetIt’s about that time of year when fashion magazines want to give you a leg up in the spirit department. Apparently, there is this thing called the “winter blues” and it’s doing a number on our looks and wardrobe. How anything with the word “blue” in it could be a bad thing is baffling to this blogger who thinks the color blue is the reason the world is so damn thrilling! Yes, that exclamation point was probably an attempt at feigned exuberance.

But instead of fighting these winter blues, why don’t we try to make them work for us instead? They are, according to some sources, a fact of life and in denying facts we set ourselves up to be some sort of Don Quixote type character and we all know how that ended.

So, let’s walk away from the sun glaring in through our windows, crawl back under the covers and do what feels natural: be grumpy. It’s totally cool this time of year, because you can blame it on the winter blues even though you’ve decided that they’re actually your new favorite time of year.

sadly, i live in austin tx, where it’s 70 degrees in winter and always sunny. i have no winter. i hate the sun, maybe that’s why i’m grumpy all year?
