Renee Zellweger made a low-key red carpet appearance at the 2013 Oscars on Sunday–she appeared in only a handful of photos wearing a slinky gold custom Carolina Herrera and kind of looking like she was in pain* (see below).
Of course, the Oscars are a night of pain–rather, the culmination of weeks of pain, involving but not limited to “detoxing,” “juicing,” grueling cardio and not consuming any solids.
Which may or may not explain Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson‘s apparent crankiness. He tweeted at Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence:

It’s always kind of a shock when famous people break the fourth wall like this.
The tweet has (obviously) since been deleted because 1) that’s not a terribly nice thing to say and 2) it’s probably in Ferguson’s best interests not to neg his fellow celebrities in public. No word from Lawrence, she’s probably too busy fighting back all of America with a stick.

*Apparently, in addition to Botox speculation, there was drunkenness speculation. If Zellweger needs to get wasted to make it through a seventeen hour awards show, who could blame her?
