Crowdsourcing: I’m Going On A Blind Date With A Kinkster, What Should I Wear?

Last week I wrote about my friend who forwarded me the profile of an OKCupid dude whom she thought I should meet. Since we’re both living in Paris and both like The Smiths, there is obvious much to discuss should we were to meet up.

I’m calling this a “blind date” and not an OKCupid date, because aside from Jamie’s experiment, I’m not on OKCupid, so this feels more like a set-up. As I mentioned in the original post, the fella was very open about his sexual tastes in his profile, which I found to be fascinating. Although I do have a fetish or two, I don’t think I’d put that in an online dating profile. Or maybe I would; I don’t know.

Through the overtly sexual emails that we have exchanged, we agreed to meet at some point early next week. With all his cards on the table, and mine only slightly so, the next question is what I should wear on this so-called date.

Since being in Paris the weather has called for moody and dark, despite the fact that my wardrobe looks like a J.Crew catalogue has thrown up in it. The weather next week is supposed to be between 50 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit, so do I go dark and somber, or light and, well, preppy? Here are the two looks from which I’m trying to choose.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo...

Or…

J.Crew...

J.Crew…

As you can see, I have a hard time committing to one look, and this probably has everything to do with all the voices in my head. So what do we think?

What should I wear on my date with the kinky guy?

What about half-way? I’m thinking of Anne Hathaway’s outfit from the very end of The Devil Wears Prada (but I’m having a hard time describing it).

Ok I can’t find pictures online, but it’s basically a brown leather jacket over a black turtleneck with jeans and tall leather boots. Think there was a fashionably clunky necklace involved, with dark makeup. Any guy with even the slightest bit of inner freak will be drooling over you.

      You’re awesome, Sean.

And I know exactly the outfit you’re talking about… but I’ll have to pass on the turtleneck… with my rack, it would be a sin. So, maybe a shirt that buttons and, oops! One of my buttons just came undone!

      Go get ‘em, Tiger. :-)

Dude, you have to do dark and moody, you’re in Paris! J. Crew just doesn’t feel right set against the beautiful Paris scenery.

    • Amanda Chatel

You’re so right. I feel weird if I wear a color brighter than grey here. But when I get home to the city it’s canary yellow cardigan time!

I voted for “dark and moody”, but my heart says “fuck the date! Just answer the door in your underwear”. Perhaps because I went that route myself, and then ended up marrying the person??

    • Amanda Chatel

If it means marrying a Frenchman with a dark kinky side, I may go the underwear route.

leather jacket!! No doubt about it. I just got an awesome leather jacket that would be just perfect to go on dates with kinky dudes. Too bad I’m in a long-term long-distance relationship. TMI, I’m sorry. I’m drunk.

    • Amanda Chatel

Haha! I wish I were drunk, too. Damnit!

  • Tania

Cute J-crew dress with leather jacket on top. Best of both worlds!

If the weather is calling for dark and moody, go with dark and moody. It doesn’t really matter though, I’m kinky as fuck and I dress like a schoolteacher or a nun or something most of the time (and I do not mean I wear a sexy schoolteacher or sexy nun outfit, either). Just treat it like any normal date!

    • Amanda Chatel

But we’ve already exchanged… um, you know… Cate, you know!

    • Cate

It matters not! My current gentleman caller and I had also exchanged…things and had a lovely discussion about breathplay, yet I dressed like season 1 Peggy from Mad Men on our first date! If anything, dressing like a prude is, in my opinion at least, a bit more exciting, as it makes you suddenly mysterious!
