Naomi Campbell graces the debut issue of Numero Russia and, good god, Naomi Campbell will be a supermodel forever (Photoshop or no).
As for the question of why Numero cast a Brit over Russian supes like Natasha Poly, Anne V, Irina Shayk or (the apparently superhuman) Natalia Vodianova–the magazine’s new editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley tells WWD:
“Naomi Campbell is on the first cover. I chose her because she lives in Russia now, she has a Russian life with her boyfriend Vladimir [Doronin]. They have an extraordinary new house by Zaha Hadid, and I was privileged enough to see it before it was completed. It’s extraordinarily modern to be in Russia.”
Sebastian Kim shot Campbell and her endless legs for issue.
Unfortunately, it’s hard not to be reminded of Numero‘s recent mention of this cover as thin justification for putting a 16-year-old white girl in blackface.
