WHY Mila Kunis Is Wearing A Sexy Wicked Witch Costume In Oz The Great And Poweful

Oh, God, there was actually a reason that Mila Kunis was strutting around in OZ wearing a leather bustier! It wasn’t just that filmmakers assume that every time Mila Kunis is in anything she should be wearing something that is sexy, sexy, sexy, all the time. Though filmmakers do seem to have decided that Mila Kunis should always look sexy, so I’m really looking forward to her playing, say, Helen Keller.

However, her costume in Oz, does have people, like writers at SheKnows, exclaiming “when it comes to sex appeal, Mila is broom lengths ahead of her sister witches.” It’s hard to say “witches don’t dress that way” because witches are not real, but Vanity Fair does have an explanation for the costume.

Apparently, Oz was made by Disney, however, Warner Brothers owns the rights to the original movie. According to Vanity Fair:

“The drawings went through legal,” says [costume designer] Jones. While most of the time the elements were deemed too universal to copyright, sometimes there was a conflict. “There may have been a question about [the Wicked Witch’s] hat. But it is very different—in scale and in material—and there was a question as to whether we could use the wimple and neck treatment.” Ultimately, they decided against it.”

So, what was not copyrighted was a sexy leather busier, so, okay! Okay, well, that makes some kind of sense, now.

I’m conflicted. I mean, of course they’d try to make something sexy because sex sells and sexy costumes irritate the crap out of me, but, in most Disney movies ugly and frumpy = evil. In Disney movies, evil is always dark, fat, ugly with no semblance of beauty or, in this case sexiness. It has no appeal. Here it does. This witch is pretty. Even when she is green, she has a figure, shes not completely shrouded. So *shrug* I don’t know..but hey, Mila Kunis cleavage!

To be semi-fair, the reason she turns evil is because after she falls in love with the Wizard, he doesn’t love her (maybe betrays her?), and so she goes evil. Basically, that’s the evil witch version of a “revenge dress.”

Really, the bigger issue is that the movie portrays women as going evil witch crazy after a guy doesn’t return their affection :(

Yeah I was excited about this movie until a few days before it came out I found out why the witch becomes evil. I only know what you said here but that was a big turn off for me. I usually can do the whole suspend belief thing pretty well with movies (I’m a musical theatre nerd, I can suspend reality really easily) but this just really rubbed me the wrong way. I just don’t understand why she had to be wicked all because of a guy…

Well, that’s not REAAAAALLY the reason. She’s manipulated by her far more wicked sister, Evanora (played by Weisz). She tricks Mila into thinking that the wizard came on to her as well, then she plays on her emotions to get her to eat the wicked “apple”. Rachel is also hideous in the film, but she hides it until the end.

Well come on, Oz loves her and leaves her like he does to all the girls he knows. She just turned out to be a psycho.

My theory about her outfit is that they started with the hat. Then they worked down, everything else following.

The costumes were so cheap. They were so badly constructed. The fit was so poor. They were puny. I am so mad that someone got paid for that crap!

I was kinda disappointed she wasn’t wearing vinyl, I love vinyl.
