How To Do Your Make-Up Like A Ballerina

Are you a black swan or a white swan? Either way, you’re going to be applying a metric ton of base, And not one, but two sets of false eyelashes (I find this particularly notable because I can barely put on one set of false eyelashes). Racked demonstrates how Sara Mearns, a principal dancer for the New York City Ballet, prepares for her nightly routine, and goes from this…

In her video she explains that she’s not an expert, but she knows what looks good onstage. Speaking of which, here is that video:

Sara says… “‘I think your eye make-up and your face is an extension of the ballet and an extension of your personality,’ she says. ‘I’m not saying that if your eye makeup is boring you’re boring… I’m just saying that it should be just as exciting.’

I am saying that if your make-up is boring you are boring, though. Get out those double sets of eyelashes immediately, and start pas de deuxing through your office. Freedom to be the kind of loon you need to be.

Or, at the very least, you have some new tips that will prove immensely helpful the next time there is a sexy ballerina movie out, and you want to go as that character for halloween. – Via Racked

Ballet makeup videos: OH HOW I LOVE THEM. I don’t even understand why. The end results end up looking pretty much the same, but everyone arrives there so differently. Like in this video, she does the contour around her eyes/temples with blush, not with brown eyeshadow or darker pancake (we called it slap). That’s crazy to me!

I miss ballet, is what I think I’m saying. And I also cannot believe I just said that.
