Fox News Stupidly Leaked The Name Of The Steubenville Rape Victim

fox news

Well, if you thought CNN handled Steubenville badly, gosh, you’re really going to hate Fox’s coverage. Because they managed to leak the victim’s name.

According to The Raw Story, Fox reported:

“We have not known, really, how the victim is doing, Mike,” host Martha MacCallum told Tobin. “Is there any information on that today?”

“Well, a relative tells me that she spends a lot of time in her room,” Tobin explained. “She has been back out playing sports, and through it all — you’ll be surprised to learn — she made the honor roll one more time.”

“A family representative says the remorse coming from the football players came too late,” the correspondent added. “We saw their reaction yesterday.”

At that point, the report cut to footage of one of the rapists, 17-year-old Trent Mays, apologizing to the victim in court on Sunday.

“I would truly like to apologize to [redacted], her family, my family and the community,” Mays said. “No picture [of the rape] should have been sent around, let alone even taken.”

It’s nice that The Raw story redacted that name. Fox did not. You can watch the America’s Newsroom video, here.

Though it’s nice to know, I suppose, that the rapists were not the only ones who were very good students.

Wait.. No pictures should have been taken? HOW ABOUT NOT RAPING HER, YOU ARSEHOLE!?

      • Cee

Well according to the defense team and stupid people, unconscious means she didn’t say no…so, by that logic, if there are no pictures, there is no rape? Fuck logic, right?

So what does Fox think a girl is supposed to do or not do after they got raped? Its a shocker that she is trying to pick up the pieces of her life after all of this and is still excelling academically? Was she supposed to get locked up in a tower or something?

      • Fabel

Yep, that “apology” killed me also. He is really, literally saying “Sorry I got caught.” These little fucking assholes do not feel bad AT ALL.

    • Nikola

And I now I want to rage-quit the world.

    • Eileen

Is it sad that I can’t get too upset about this because at least the spot 1) Correctly identified the victim as being the girl who was raped and 2) Didn’t try to blame her for it? They should have beeped her name, but somehow careless editing bothers me less than, say, what CNN did.

      • Colleen

The issue with releasing her name is that she is already receiving death threats for “ruining the boys’ (and by boys I mean rapists’) lives.”

It’s just more bullshit a victim should never have to endure.

      • Eileen

Oh, I know. And ordinarily I would be really upset about it. I was just commenting on how this, as reprehensible as it is, seems not so bad compared to what other news outlets did to make the rapists look like the victimized parties.

Why are they football players? Why can’t they be two teenage students? What’s with the obsession with their ability to tackle/sometimes catch a football?

      What is her name

    • maggie

      omg that poor girl

    • SaucyK

CNN and MSNBC showed the same video revealing the victim’s name. Let’s not all hate on FOX news just because its easy.
