Red Carpet: Adriana Lima Wore Her Alberta Ferretti Gown Backwards

Sometimes wearing a dress backwards feels like an inspired choice–as was the case when Angelina Jolie flipped her powdery blue Max Azria around for the 2009 SAG Awards. Sometimes, however, it’s not so successful–Sigourney Weaver reversed her black Lanvin gown at this year’s SAG Awards ceremony and looked more than a little like she was wearing a Hefty bag.

Victoria’s Secret Angel Adriana Lima took the risk at the Brazilfoundation Miami Gala earlier this week in a white gown from the Spring 2012 Alberta Ferretti collection (you can see its intended direction on Abbey Lee Kershaw).

Apparently Adriana decided the loose halter neck would better suit her shoulders. Here’s a side view:

We think–in the category of backwards dresses on the red carpet–this is one of the less successful entries. That neckline is modest for a reason: the entire side of the dress is sheer!

Still. It feels more than appropriate that a Victoria’s Secret angel would take a dress with sheer panels on the side and determine it still needed side and underboob. See:

She might want to take a page from Diane Kruger‘s playbook and temper the over-the-top sex appeal with a few more subdued elements.

Of course, tempering over-the-top sex appeal isn’t exactly the dominion of absurdly hot lingerie models.
