“Short Hair Isn’t Sexy” Even On Karlie Kloss

victorias secret angels karlie kloss

Why are people hating on Karlie Kloss‘s short hair? She is beautiful. She looks excellent. She could be entirely bald and she would look like some kind of earth angel. However, people seem very displeased about the bob she’s sporting in this new Victoria’s Secret video.

Look, I think she looks amazing. And I think short hair can be sexy, because I think sex appeal has more to do with a person and their confidence that their haircut. However, over on Fashin:

Well, suffice to say over on Fashin people do not agree with me! They do not agree with me at all, as the post is titled “one of these things is not like the other.” I imagine that’s Karlie, and her short haircut, though, frankly, it is a little confusing since everyone is a gorgeous supermodel, so they actually are all alike. But it seems they mean Karlie.

Why do you think people don’t find short hair sexy? I’ll give you long hair is good for pulling in bed, but I don’t think everyone is into pulling hair/having their hair pulled. Is it because you could use a woman’s long hair to drag her back to your cave in caveman times? That is not something we really think of as sexy right now. Most people find that pretty unappealing.

So, I’m not sure why people have decided that even if you have the face and body of a supermodel, you are somehow not sexy enough unless your hair is long. This is absurd. Let’s all go hack off our hair right now.

Uh… her hair isn’t even that short.

      You first. :)

It’s because shorter hair is the genre of “mom haircuts,” which are by association de-sexualized.

Her hair looks totally adorable on her. People are crazy.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I grew my hair out because I’ve had so many different lengths and felt like having long hair for a while. It was time for a change after 500 different variations on the razored bob, but I feel like I’ve lost a lot of cool girl cred because my hair is so much more typical. People don’t look at me the same way as they did when my hair was edgy and angular (in some groups it’s good and in some it’s bad), and I’m tempted to chop it all off just to spite them.

Unfortunately, getting a haircut that I don’t want right now just to make a statement about conventional beauty standards would be crazy. Why can’t hair just be hair?

Well, if you can keep growing it past butt length, it’ll then be long enough you won’t be typical anymore. But you will get a lot of unsolicited comments!

Yes, I definitely speak from experience.

I think she looks elegant and fantastic!

Alternatively, we could all throw Rapunzel wigs on & I guess trick everyone into thinking we’re supermodels!

I would love to contribute some incredibly erudite and thoughtful comment to the discussion, but I can’t get past the fact that the second responder’s name is “lickmeout”, on the Fashin thread. Eww. Way to keep it classy, girl…

If you do not that think that woman is beautiful just because of her hair….you have got issues.

halle berry rocks the short hair, and she is gorgeous. She also made one hell of a catwoman.

Long, loose hair is a cultural symbol of youth/availability. I’ve heard that young women in their late teens/early twenties grow hair faster than women of any other age, and ill health has pretty crappy effects on your hair and skin, meaning that long, healthy hair is a testament to the fact that you’ve been healthy for the past few years. In Renaissance Florence, at least (according to a Nicholas Terpstra book I read a few years ago), cutting a girl’s hair off was basically guaranteeing that she wouldn’t be able to get married because the cultural expectation was so strong. My guess is it’s related to that.

I also dated a guy who mentioned a couple of times how sexy he found the look of my long, dark hair spread over light-colored pillowcases, so I guess it could be that, too.

Polarisation. Long hair = female, short hair = male. Anything in the middle is filthy deviance; never mind if a cute pixie cut suits you better than yards of hair.

That is what baffles me. I have a short hair cut and I am always told that men like longer hair and that a short hair cut is masculine. But, than I am always given compliments (by men and women) about my hair. So do I grow out my hair for men?
Or do I keep in a really cool cut that I adore? So far, I have kept it in a really cool cut that I adore.

I much prefer my wife with a short, asymmetrical cut that shows off her gorgeous neck and earlobes. In my opinion it shows her beautiful face better, it is more versatile, and saves the incessant twirling and primping that women of all ages seem to perform almost constantly. I was also deeply in love with Meg Ryan and Demi Moore at an impressionable age, so,,,,, maybe that’s it.

As a Minnesotan I am really most upset that people have resorted to using the beloved cultural icon that is the Mall of America as an insult. Have you ever even been there? The have two Alpaca Connection stores. TWO!

      Also, her hair is cute.

I don’t know why, but I just loved your comment. You’re enthusiasm about two alpaca connection stores, although I have no idea what that is, made me smile.

Whatever, karlie looks absolutely beautiful, she has the long slender neck, and the young, slender, small, defined face that short hair goes perfect on, the bob is adorable on her. I’ve had short hair for years, shorter than karlie’s actually, and I will never go back. Of course, men complain at me just like they are doing with a supermodel, but I say fuck them, we aren’t born to cater to every mans likes and wants on the planet. We don’t have to change our clothes and hair just to suit them.
