Adele Turns Down Seven Figure Memoir Offer, Is The Anti-Hannah Horvath

I don’t think anyone would debate the fact that Adele has accomplished more in her 24 years than most people do in their entire lives. She’s rich and famous, she’s won nine Grammys, and she got Anna Wintour to put someone bigger than a size 2 on the cover of Vogue. But when HarperCollins offered her over a million dollars to write a memoir about her life thus far, she said no.

But this is 2013! I thought we were all telling everyone everything about ourselves now, famous people especially? Please help me to be less confused, anonymous sources.

According to The Belfast Telegraph, Adele said no because she thinks she is “far too young” to write a memoir. “Adele’s never been a really showy person,” a source told the paper. “So it was always going to take a lot to get her to write her life story anyway. But even though she received a lucrative offer, her primary concern was that she doesn’t want to write a book about just 24 years. She feels she’d rather wait until she has more life experience to write about.”

Say what? Do you mean to tell me that there are young people out there who do not yet feel ready to write a book about their lives, despite possessing in droves that kind of seasoned wisdom that can only come from turning 24? Color me surprised.

I guess not everyone is as confident in the profundity of their life experiences as Girls‘ Hannah Horvath. Which is kind of a shame, as Adele seems like the kind of young person whose memoir I might actually like to read. But don’t worry; as the source said, “She’d never say never, but she did say ‘not now.’” We will still get to read about Adele’s experiences at some point, we just have to wait for her to accrue more of them first.
