This “beauty balm” trend might be getting a little out of hand. First there were BB creams – tinted moisturizers that also have sunscreen and anti-aging stuff and are supposed to be able to replace the multi-step regimens we’re all apparently supposed to be doing so we’ll never get old. Then those caught on so well that CC creams started showing up. Then there was BB cream for hair, and now there’s a BB cream to drink.
Kusmi Tea, purveyors of ultra-posh tea blends in pretty, brightly colored tins, say they have come up with the world’s first BB tea. They really are probably the first people to think of calling their tea a BB cream, though in this case they say BB stands for “beauty beverage.”
“Following the example of BB creams, this Beauty Beverage caters to all your skin’s daily needs,” Kusmi says of its BB Detox tea. In theory, the blend of green tea, mate, and grapefruit can make people’s skin look better from the inside out thanks to the antioxidants in green tea and rooibos, the vitamin A and C in dandelion, and the hydration that comes from drinking copious amounts of tea. The company recommends drinking five cups a day for maximum face-glowing.
Of course nothing will actually make us stay 22 forever, but tea is supposed to be crammed full of awesome health benefits, so I figured it couldn’t hurt. It isn’t exactly inexpensive at about $1 per bag, but nothing championed by Vogue is going to come cheap. And it tastes pretty good. It’s more grapefruit scented than grapefruit flavored, and the rooibos gives it a bit of a creamy finish. And it’s caffeinated, which is always welcome.
It might not keep a person young forever, but summer’s coming and it would probably taste really good over ice.
