More clips are out from The Great Gatsby, which indicate it will probably be the worst date movie ever! That’s true in spite of the fact that it keeps being billed as the biggest romance in the history of the world. We’ve already decided that your wedding is never going to compare to it, but let’s look at this new picture where Leonardo DiCaprio, as Gatsby, tricks out a room with flowers, macarons, and an extremely dopey looking Tobey Maguire.
As a clock ticks loudly in a room filled with freshly cut flowers, Gatsby nervously awaits the arrival of his lost love.
Nick Carraway, Gatsby’s neighbour and second cousin of Daisy, drily asks him: ‘Have you got everything you need? Perhaps more flowers?’
Gatsby turns to his friend, played by Tobey Maguire, and says: ‘Do you think it’s too much?’
‘I think it’s what she’d want,’ replies Nick, to which Gatsby replies, ‘I think so too.’
So, basically, if you are a romantically inclined lady, you are going to think your boyfriend is failing you for not filling an entire room with flowers and overrated pastries (yes, macarons are overrated). If you are a non-romantically inclined lady, you are just going to spend this movie muttering about how it is dumb and resenting the expectation it is forcing on you. If you are a gay couple, you’re just going to feel sad about Nick and Gatsby. That’s reasonable. That’s reasonable, but that does not make it a happy date movie.
You know who this is a good movie for? Florists. Really, only florists.
