Last night, the Olivier Awards took place in London to celebrate excellence in professional theater. As one might expect, an awards show that rewards performers for merit onstage (as opposed to, say, “Best Shirtless Performance”) attracts a more dressed-up crowd with generally lovely style — not a whole lot of cutout dresses or Wonka suits here. As a result, the red carpet was just so much less offensive than usual.
Of course, there were clear winners when it came to fashion. While many folks looked spectacular, it was Helen Mirren who positively killed it. Trust me, you will fall in love when you scroll down and see her from several angles (the answer is no, I couldn’t resist posting multiple pictures). Nearly everyone else looked lovely, though, so judge for yourself.
I don’t know who Brian May and Anita Dobson are as of yet, but it is now my absolute mission to become BFFs with them. They look like the most awesome people ever.
Elaine Page seems hella fun. And she wears the red/pink combo so well!
Dionne Bromfield looked gorgeous in this perfectly fitted ivy dress. The subtle (but coordinating) shoes, hair and makeup make this look A+.
Leave it to Kim Cattrall to wear one of the only ill-advised looks of the evening.
I know you want me to make some Potter puns about Daniel Radcliffe looking snazzy last night. But I’m not gonna give ‘em to you.
It was close to a cutout, yes, but this dress still looked excellent on Sheridan Smith.
English actress Romola Garai went sheer in all the right ways.
I love how Heather Headley‘s dress fits as well as her beautiful makeup and hair.
Kristin Beth Williams looked so lovely, she made the wind blow.
Idina Menzel looked incredible in this scarlet print. Also, loving the popularity of lace sleeves on this red carpet.
Declan Bennett and Zrinka Cvitesic stopped by on their way to rich people prom and looked deeply upset about it.
