Blogger Fired For Calling NBA Cheerleader Kelsey Williams “Too Chunky”

CBS Radio 610 just fired blogger Anna-Megan Raley for saying that NBA cheerleader Kelsey Williams is “too chunky.” Specifically, she said that:

The Rockets looked terrible in Game 1, but some say they weren’t the only bad-looking people on the court.

We’re not trying to be ugly. We are just discussing what men like in women, specifically NBA cheerleaders.

This pretty blonde has been criticized by some folks in OKC for having “pudginess” around her waistline. But if she’s comfortable wearing that tiny outfit and dancing for NBA fans, then good for her.

Ugh. You were being ugly, lady. You were definitely doing that.

She also included a poll at the end of her post (which has been taken down, but which you can still find on google cache) asking readers to vote on whether:

She has the perfect look to be an NBA cheerleader.
She could use some tightening up in her midsection.
She has no business wearing that outfit in front of people.

This is absurd. It is absurd to have a poll like that.

First of all, Kelsey Williams is spectacularly beautiful. She looks as though she is toned within about an inch of her life. This is her official Oklahoma City Thunder cheerleader photo:

The woman has a six pack. That probably goes along with her being a cheerleader - a field in which your figure is expected to be pretty well maintained. But this is not a situation where “I was being truthful!” would be a great defense. Even if Kelsey Williams did not look incredibly physically fit – and she does – there’s just no need to try to make women feel insecure about their bodies when they’re in a field where their bodies are already being critiqued. It’s not edgy or interesting, it just sucks. Sitting around talking about how other women are too fat sucks. And it really needs to be something that people are trained to stop doing.

Not sure this result is the right one, the site itself should also take some of the responsibility for publishing the story. Hopefully this woman has learned why this caused such a backlash and will reflect on how she can use her writing to further positive change in the future.

I thought it was especially horrible that she cast it off on “some people say”… like she was just reporting a public opinion
no, not some people. You. You say.

      • Samantha Escobar

Yes! It’s like starting your personal opinion off with “some argue…”

        Nah, man, just you. Guh.

I feel like I can confidently call this woman a terrible person, so I’m glad to hear this. Also, bullshit on the “we were discussing what men like in women”—no you weren’t, lady. You were turning your hateful mind inside out & showing it to world.

Devils Advocate here: That is an OLD pic, she is not as tight as she used to be BUT she’s not chunky by everyday standards. If we’re only speaking of NBA land, then yes, she is a little chunky.

She’s beautiful. If her character is only half as beautiful, I want to marry her :-)

ChattyCathy is right about her profile pic being old….more recent ones do not show her having a six-pack. I say that ONLY in the interest of accuracy, because the whole debate about whether she is pudgy is insulting and idiotic. The blogger deserved to get fired and I hope it redefines, to some extent, the parameters that we find acceptable regarding the discussion of people’s bodies.

I’m still mad. “She has no business wearing that outfit in front of people”
Too bad she can wear what she damn well pleases, and it’s none of your business!

Kelsey, YOU ARE PERFECT AND DON’T LET ANYONE TELL YOU OTHERWISE! That dumb b*** should have been fired. Size 4? Most of the ladies in the US wish they were a size 4. And always remember that Marilyn Monroe and others were Size 12 and considered “perfect”. Be happy about who you are and ignore all the haters. :) Their all not worth your time.

Her official photo is probably retouched (who gives a crap) Even the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders spray a line on their belly to give an impression of a toned tummy from a distance, (again, big deal) And a majority of NBA viewers may be African American and from my experience prefer a woman with a little meat on her bones. But you know what? She’s beautiful and she can move and she does her job. More power to you Kelsey! I prefer petite woman because i’m not a big man but I think you’re a 10!

I can’t believe this woman lost her job over those comments? While it might bother the cheerleader, it also bothers playwrites when critics hammer their plays or directors when people make fun of their films. Joel McHale makes a fortune making fun of people and every politician is fair game for people to berate daily. How about shows and magazine articles which make fun of the way people dress. The cheerleader is in the public eye and is making money off of her body. It is fair to discuss whether she has the body necessary to do it. She should be happy to get publicity and move on. If she doesn’t like someone’s comments either speak up, tone up or get out of the skimpy outfits. However, this is commonplace in today’s environment.

First, photos can be doctored. Second, that photo is most likely months old and we don’t know what she looked like the evening in question. Third, since when is this blogger not entitled to her own opinion? So the bleep what if you disagree with her — if you don’t like what she said, don’t read the blog! Firing her because she simply expressed an opinion is yet another example of the despicable PC bleep we have in this country today.

Well, it’s the kind of thing you might expect from a superficial dum dum…
This cheerleader looks fine, not everyone has to look the same…
I wonder what this blogger looks like? Is there a reason she blogs and instead of leading cheers?
