We have previously established that Tiffany’s The Great Gatsby-inspired collection is incredible, but for most of us, obtaining any of that gorgeous jewelry is quite the pipe dream. The kind of people who could afford such beautiful baubles, bangles and beads are people who are famous and wealthy like, oh, I don’t know, movie stars? Apparently, though, Tiffany’s does not even trust those folks with their precious jewels, as the company actually sent a security guard to watch over Carey Mulligan on set, ensuring she did not steal anything, according to her interview with Vogue UK.
“I would be doing a scene, wearing these fabulous jewels from Tiffany’s worth many, many millions,” said the actress. “There’d be diamond bracelets on each arm, and diamond earrings, and rings, and strings of pearls around my neck. And I could see this guy in the corner watching me intently, in case I ran off with anything.”
I realize this is not some kind of crazy, wild news, but to me, it was pretty interesting. When you think about what a high-budget film this was and how high-profile Mulligan is, it is almost outlandish for me to imagine that she would possibly think stealing millions of dollars in jewelry is something she could get away with. If she were, say, Lindsay Lohan who would steal another person’s treasured, one-of-a-kind Liz Taylor bracelet, then yeah…I think I might hire a guard or seven. Then again, it’s not my millions of dollars of jewels, so I suppose I’m not biased enough to have suspicion.
