Met Gala Beauty: The Best Hair & Makeup Looks At The 2013 Met Gala

Best Met Gala Beauty: Rooney Mara at 2013 Met Gala

All right, guys: you’re probably getting sick to death of 2013 Met Gala stuff, but we need to talk hair and makeup before we depart this shitshow entirely.

Let’s get right to it: here’s our list of the best Met Gala beauty, from Anne Hathaway‘s peroxide pixie cut to Rooney Mara‘s moody dark lip. Expect a surprise or two.

Best Met Gala Beauty: Anne Hathaway attends the Costume Institute Gala

Yeah. She looked incredible.

Aubrey Plaza attends the Costume Institute Gala

Aubrey Plaza! We hardly recognized her because she looked so sultry (we also think she is the best).

Diane Kruger attends the Costume Institute Gala

Diane Kruger doesn’t really fail when it comes to her ridiculously beautiful face. Her makeup was suitably glam-punk.

Hailee Steinfeld attends the Costume Institute Gala

Hailee Steinfeld got points for her safety pin dress, but we really loved her startling (and super flattering) green eyeshadow.

Karen Elson attends the Costume Institute Gala

Karen Elson is stupendously beautiful, so that helps. But the effortless hair and minimal makeup did her well–still pretty ambivalent about the fake septum piercing, though.

Leelee Sobieski attends the Costume Institute Gala

We love a good slicked-back hair look and so appreciated Leelee Sobieski. And who needs mascara when you have such piercing eyes?

Miley Cyrus attends the Costume Institute Gala

You win this round, Miley Cyrus.

Rita Ora attends the Costume Institute Gala

Rita Ora‘s gorgeous face almost fooled us into putting her on the Best Dressed list. We resisted (because we hate cutouts, mainly) but her ’90s Gwen Stefani thing was just perfect last night.

Rooney Mara attends the 2013 Costume Institute Gala

Rooney Mara, flawless as always, looked equal parts Blade Runner and Dynasty. She pulled off a dark lip and that’s hard!

Helps to have eerily perfect skin and good brows, though.

January Jones attends the Costume Institute GalaAnd yup: a huge “deal with it” to anyone who’s pissed about this.

We’re including January Jones because she let her makeup artist commit utterly to the theme and Jones is kind of the last person we’d expect to do so. She looked edgy and scary and bolder than just about anyone else on the red carpet because of it.

In a word, she was kind of punk about it.

Beyond the fact that Anne Hathaway with a pixie cut makes me forget my own name when I look at her, at second glance I have to give Aubrey Plaza bonus points. In the context of the punk theme, the details on her dress look like fashionable blood and booze stains.

I don’t know how much credit we can actually give Rooney Mara for being on theme; doesn’t she do that dark lip thing ALL the time? She looks great, obviously, but I’m kinda over it.

    But Giovanna!

  • Lastango

Maybe I’m simply having a visual braingap this morning, but to my eye none of thse faces are pretty except Hailee Steinfeld. The rest look like they’ve been up for 36 hours straight.

    • Clairdelune

Sadly, they probably have. A lot of them traveled to the Met Gala the same day!

  • Jules

Don’t really get the purpose of Karen Elson on this list. She is naturally beautiful but she looks like I do on days when I let my hair air dry and put on mascara at most.
However, I cannot stop staring at Diane Kruger. Her eye makeup is totally on point!

Haylee Steinfeld is easily the best overall look, wow! That eye makeup is amazing! Also, been loving January Jones not giving a damn lately about what anyone thinks.

How is betty fucking draper the most punk of them all? I didn’t even recognize her, she’s actually a punk

Is it just me or were Rooney Mara and Tom Hiddleston separated at birth?? I’m probably hallucinating…
