If there is any really, really famous celebrity my own age whom I think I could hang out with (besides Jason Segel, obviously), it’s Kristen Stewart. Obviously, I do not know her in person and can’t say for sure, but she seems to be about as antisocial as I am and she doesn’t seem to care too much about what’s going on around her. While folks like Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway and Justin Timberlake all seem pleasant and fun, I think I would only be able to get down with them* at parties. Stewart reminds me of the friends I can go get In N Out with at 10 PM before that party because otherwise, we won’t be able to decently imbibe enough to stand the party itself.
Now, she’s giving me yet another reason to like her: she does not like peplums. Peplums are my absolute least favorite trend, hands down, bar none. I think they are an awful, disgusting, stupid structural element to add to a garment. Just because something is reminiscent of a vintage look does not make it a good thing (hello, super-wide-legged bell bottoms); sometimes, we just need to come up with new trends. Ones that do not give our hips an overhang.
Tara Swennen, Stewart’s stylist, explained in an interview with Stylecaster that she has repeatedly offered peplums to the actress with no luck:
Last season, it was so funny because they called us out in The New York Times [that] Kristen had sort of hit every trend last year except for peplum! She’s not a fan of peplum. I tried with 20 peplum dresses this year, and it was not happening! I’m trying to get her to the high-neck turtleneck thing. I’m trying to push her.
Don’t push her! Keep her away from hipcapes! Let her be free!
But seriously: I know it’s stupid, but this made me like Kristen Stewart even more simply for my own silly, selfish reasons. I think people give Stewart a lot of trouble for being kind of negative-seeming, but in reality, she’s just less warm and openly sweet compared to other young female celebrities, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Plus, there are some things that truly call for negativity. Namely: peplums.
*Yes, I am really speculating a situation in which I would “get down” with these people. I have a vivid imagination.
