Noted fashion photographer Nigel Barker, man of shaved-head good looks and America’s Next Top Model fame, is getting into the makeup business with two new cosmetics lines that are set to launch sometime in 2014.
He’ll be developing the lines in conjunction with his wife, model and makeup artist Cristen Barker, but given that Barker is primarily famous as a photographer, the line will be focusing on making everyone look “camera ready,” Barker said.
“After years of staring at people through a close lens, you get a really tight look at the skin and the face,” he told Women’s Wear Daily.
The couple will be developing both a high-end, “prestige” cosmetics brand and a mass-market makeup line. Both collections will have a significant skincare element, with toners and cleansers and face creams and such.
The first line, Beauty Equation, is the more expensive incarnation that’s targeted at women in their mid-20s and older. It will include vitamin-enhanced skincare products and the fun colorful stuff like eye shadows, lip gloss, and face kits. Prices for that line are expected to start at around $25 for individual products.
The mass-market line, BE Cosmetics, is more of a drugstore brand and is intended to be targeted at teenagers and younger shoppers. That line doesn’t have the same vitamins and botanicals as its higher-end sibling, but it aims to create “a healthy environment for younger skin.”
The ad campaigns will be shot by Barker, of course, and the cosmetics packaging will be covered in his photography.
