For reasons I cannot quite understand nor explain, somebody has bid $1.5 million dollars on a trip with Leonardo DiCaprio. Well, I guess whomever it may actually just really enjoy space, because that’s where the trip is. To space. With Leonardo DiCaprio. Let’s just let that set in momentarily.
The bidder won his or her future seat next to DiCaprio at the amFAR Cinema Against AIDS Charity Thursday night at Cannes. He or she now has a guaranteed spot on Richard Branson‘s Virgin Galactic space flight, so they can creepily send Leo drinks from…well, next to him, which would actually be kind of hilarious.
Apparently, there was actually no indication whom the person would be sitting next to, as the auction booklet simply listed the package as a “once-in-a-lifetime trip to space with a mystery guest.” So, was the bidder aware that it would be Leo? Nobody really knows, but just a few moments after the first person won, another pair of seats were auctioned off for $2.3 million so obviously, plenty of rich people really like the idea of going to space with a famous person.
Side note: is anybody surprised that Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t snag this type of auction first? Girl gonna be so jelly.
