A Dapper Thief Stole $100K In Tiffany Necklaces

Tiffany jewel theft.

He’d probably have had to grab a couple more to equal this one.

The way you dress certainly affects the way people perceive you, so be sure to dress nicely if you’re ever planning on knocking over a Tiffany’s.

It worked for one man recently. A man in a dark suit, hat, and tie went into the Tiffany flagship on Fifth Ave. at around 3 p.m. Friday and asked to see two necklaces, which the company says were worth about $100,000 together. He then made pleasant conversation with the sales clerk for a few minutes, before distracting the clerk, pocketing the necklaces, and heading out the nearest door while no one was looking.

With all the security around that Tiffany, we’re shocked he made it out and down the street without anybody stopping him. I once went in to look at some things, and while the clerk was very nice, he definitely signaled for a security guard to stand behind me the whole time, so it’s not like Tiffany is lax with its security.

Heck, they even hired a security guard to follow movie star Carey Mulligan around the set of The Great Gatsby to protect their goods.

“I would be doing a scene, wearing these fabulous jewels from Tiffany’s worth many, many millions,” Mulligan said. “There’d be diamond bracelets on each arm, and diamond earrings, and rings, and strings of pearls around my neck. And I could see this guy in the corner watching me intently, in case I ran off with anything.”

The whole Tiffany jewel theft was caught on camera, but police say the man is still at large. If we’ve learned anything from this story, it’s that it’s always a good idea to wear a nice suit and walk really, really fast.
