Have you seen this clip of Russell Brand? After the anchors on the MSNBC talk show Morning Joe talk about him as though he is not even there he just takes over the show. Here, let’s watch it together:
At one point they call him by the wrong name, and giggle about how they cannot understand anything he’s saying (he is talking very clearly and reasonably). Basically, one of the anchors claims Russell Brand is headed for therapy, and he declares:
“You should refer to the person by their name if they’re present, that’s really just good manners.”
And the anchorwoman replies, “Oh, that’s where Willy is heading.” And Russell Brand says:
“Who is Willy? This is what you all do for a living? Okay, well, let me help you out. I’m here to promote a tour called The Messiah Compex. it’s here for the people of America, who I’d like to come and see me do stand-up. I’m sure these people are usually very, very good at their jobs. You’re conveying news to the people of America? Okay, people of America, we’re going to be all right. These are your trusted anchors. I’ll help out. Do you have some papers? So, we’re going to be talking about Edward Snowden – is this whistle-blower good for America, or are our secrets being jeopardized by his intentions? We’ll talk about that. Also, Bradley Manning. Is he an American hero or is he compromising the safety of American troops? We care about your views here on Morning Joe, and we’re going to be getting to those later. Here with me are Brian and Kat. Brian, nice tie. What do you think about Edward Snowden?”
And then one of the anchors giggles again and says “I understood everything he said!”
Oh my God, people of America, we do need help. This is absurd. However, it is also a perfect example of how to handle things if you are being stupidly objectified, so, go Russell Brand (Willy).
