Do you like the show Girls, but wish it was less funny, more fashion-y looking, and waaaay more self-serious? Then have I got the web show for you! Presented by Nowness, written by V Magazine’s Patrik Sandberg, and starring such fashion approved people as singer/model/actress Sky Ferreira, model Chris Wetmore, musician Liza Thorn, and Throbbing Gristle‘s Genesis P-orridge (?!), In Real Life promises to be “an eye-opening look into the reality of young life in New York.” Are you excited yet?
The first episode stars Ferreira as Angel, “a party girl fallen into paranoia and disenchantment,” who, in addition to all that disenchantment, must deal with her creepy, controlling boyfriend. He’s really hot and into her, but he doesn’t want her to go to parties or hang out with her friends, and he also says ridiculous things like this:
“You are the most important person to me in this entire. Disgusting. Planet. I hate the fact that you never want to be with just me…Your lame parties and your stupid friends that don’t know how to shut the fuck up. They don’t understand. Us.”
And this (while grabbing her hair in a violent way that is presumably supposed to be sexy):
“Don’t you understand that this whole generation needs to end? It’s sickening to me … I hate everybody in. This entire. World.”
Will Angel ultimately recognize the signs of an abusive relationship and leave this Adam-like asshole? Will Sky Ferreira’s unearthly beauty and great singing voice make up for the truly atrocious dialogue? (I’m assuming she they will make her sing at some point.) Will industrial music icon Genesis P-orridge swoop in and solve the problem by liquefying everyone’s brains with soul-obliterating noise and drinking them through a designer bendy straw? Find out next time, on
